I remember years ago, 1967 to be exact, the Beatles released an album entitled All You Need is Love. You can find it on YouTube and join the 8.142 million folks who have had a listen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsxtImDVMig
Now it is not quite true that love is all you need but it is one of the four key ingredients that will provide amazing results when they are applied with kind heart and deep empathy. Here is my tried and true formula;
Love + Connection + Acceptance/Humility = Profound Healing
Let me explain.
Love is that kind of non-sexual deeply personal love of another person totally for their sake. Unselfish Love.
Connection is deep contact possible between two people who are simply in the same moment at the same time with one another.
Acceptance is just that, lack of judgment or criticalness, a deep and simple understanding of what is so for the other person.
Humility I am just me.
Yes there is often a need for the right therapeutic tool, the right questions, the appropriate approach – yet no matter how skilled the therapist my be with their tools if love is replaced by professionalism, connection replace with professional distance, and acceptance replaced by fixing, little or no healing will take place.
I know this from my own personal experience with massage. I have had many massages over the years some excellent technical therapists who followed a formula, and some intuitive ones who followed their gut instincts. Yes, the intuitive ones for me gave the best healing massages because they were connected with my body needs and were willing to drop the formulaic approach.
All of this is even more true when dealing with dying and death. The more deeply I can love the person, the more authentic our connection, and the more I am willing to accept and not fix, the better the results. The more I am willing to be just me, the more magic shows up. This is what I teach in my Alive in Death Training.
The power of love: how magical. The Beatles were right!
