What Do Christmas and End of Life Planning Have in Common? Gifts!

October 13, 2017 By sgarrett Leave a Comment

I have noticed over the years that handling all those collectables a loved one leaves behind after their death can be problematic and often a bone of contention amongst surviving family members and friends.

I have also noticed that as we age there is also a natural tendency to begin downsizing – lightening the load so to speak.

And…. My wife Sonora reported that Pier One Imports already have their Christmas decorations up!

So putting all this information together I had this idea that this upcoming Christmas might be a great time for those of us baby boomers to begin the de-clutter process by choosing some of our favorite, and perhaps not so favorite, keepsakes that we want to give away to family and friends. We could wrap them up for this years holiday season. And why the heck not?

How fun could it be to handpick some of the important items in your home and wrap them up for family and friends? All those gifts being shared at Christmas as well as the memories attached to them – how loving and how fun. At the same time you can ensure that each piece you ‘gift’ away goes to the family member or friend you want it to go to – no more bickering over family memorabilia and who gets what.

Wow isn’t this a great idea – clutter clear, save money at Christmas, and make sure your important memorabilia get to the one you want it to get to. Have a ponder and see what you can create by blending downsizing and Christmas giving. Lighten the load, save money and less to handle at the end of life too!
